Julia Flores is a member of the Litigation and Environmental Practice groups of Burak Anderson & Melloni, PLC, focusing her practice on complex commercial litigation, including allegations of antitrust violations, patent infringement, consumer fraud, misrepresentation, breach of contract and environmental litigation in state and federal courts. In addition, Julia counsels clients ranging from negotiated resolution of potential disputes concerning creditor’s rights and employment claims to federal and state administrative compliance with statutory consumer protection obligations. Julia has a broad base of experience both in and out of the courtroom. Immediately before joining the firm, Julia practiced with the Vermont law firm Ward & Babb and successfully resolved several cases in formal and informal settings. She began her law career as a prosecutor for the Chittenden County State's Attorney's Office where she prosecuted serious felonies, focusing on domestic violence. While a deputy state’s attorney Julia prepared her caseload for all aspects of trial, to include several bench and jury trials as lead prosecutor. Prior to commencing her career as a lawyer, Julia worked at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and Fletcher Allen Health Care in the field of cytogenetics, the study of normal and abnormal chromosomes and the relationships between chromosome structure and phenotype. While attending law school, Julia participated as a student advocate in two clinics: the Connecticut Urban Legal Initiative, Inc. and the Asylum Clinic. Julia received a CALI award for her work in representing a Columbian national seeking political asylum in Federal Immigration Court. As a first year law student Julia was selected to be a legal intern for the Judge Advocate General’s Corp of the United States Army at Fort Lewis, Washington. She also interned at the Connecticut Attorney General’s office. Julia studied international law at the University of Leiden in The Netherlands and studied for one year as an undergraduate student in Granada, Spain. She is fluent in Spanish. When not representing the firm's clients, Julia helps coach the University of Vermont Mock Trial teams.
